HLD Announces the start of the 21/21 Campaign
HLD is beginning the 21/21 Campaign to aid efforts to provide education to children in Haiti that will allow them to effectively work for the peace and stability that has been robbed from them. This year marks the twenty-first anniversary of the popular uprising that ended the Duvalier government in Haiti, a demonstration of the Haitian people’s hope for greater participation in their government and a chance to promote a better life and opportunities for themselves and their children. However, what followed was 21 years of conflict and instability. All of the children of Haiti have only known disarray. A young adult 21 years old today has never experienced their country in a stable and prosperous condition. It is an image of despair and chaos, but there is a glimmer of hope. Last year, the Haitian people renewed their zeal for democracy by democratically electing René Préval as president after 2 years of complete chaos.
We are asking our supporters to join us in recommitting to the belief that education is a basic right of all and holds the potential to lift developing countries like Haiti out of despair. HLD has issued a proclamation to this effect, asking for a rededication to our mission and a minimum pledge of 21 dollars each month for 21 months to become a Maintainer of Hope, with additional options for higher levels of sponsorship. Contributions will go towards our programs in Haiti for providing the tools and support to give the children a better education for a better tomorrow. With the combined help of all our supporters it will be able to remove the mountains of despair and hopelessness that loom above the children of Haiti. HLD will partner with businesses, institutions of good will, and organizations in the area to hold signing ceremonies and will integrate other events into the campaign.
