About Haiti Lumiere de Demain/ Haiti’s
Light for Tomorrow, Inc.
Mission:
HLD is a 501 c 3 non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization with the primary goal of promoting literacy in primary and secondary schools in Haiti. To enrich the infrastructure of this devastated country, HLD’s environmental arm purchases and plants trees to protect against mudslides.
Goal:
To build a new, more vibrant, democratic and prosperous Haiti through a three-part program yielding educational opportunities for its children.
Programs: What do we do?
1. We provide primary school children greater access to books on a lending basis.
2. We provide scholarships annually to students attending secondary school.
3. We have established a Lending Library that provides teachers and students with reference and educational materials.
4. We provide teachers with the opportunity to receive further professional training so that they become better prepared to teach.
5. We sponsor an After-School Program that provides the youth with an environment that facilitates further learning and challenges them to new ways of thinking through educational programs after the hours of classes.
6. We sponsor an Environmental education program that teaches the children about the communal responsibility of protecting their environment.
